About Overwatch:

Overwatch Imaging automates the collection, analysis, and delivery of time-critical geospatial intelligence for missions that matter. Overwatch AI software automatically manages airborne sensors through smart pointing commands, automated detection of objects of interest, and computer-generated reporting of collected intelligence outputs for communications-efficient reporting. Overwatch smart sensors are multi-camera, multi-spectral airborne payloads designed for automated operation by edge computers rather than human sensor operators. Together, our capabilities enable life-saving agencies to scan wide areas and find small objects of interest, faster and more efficiently than with human-in-the-loop systems, so our customers can focus less on the search and more on the best response.

About this Role:

Overwatch is seeking an intern who will design, build, and test gimballed multi-camera imaging system components and assemblies in support of automated airborne intelligence payloads. The multidisciplinary engineering student will aid in the design and building of motion control elements, electromagnetic and environmental compatibility solutions, manufacturing assembly aids and fixtures, and aircraft integration structures to bring new aerial imaging systems from customer order to fully mission operational.

What You’ll do:

  • Rapid Prototyping and Design: Contribute to the design and development of dynamic and static assemblies for state-of-the-art aerial imaging systems.
  • Build: Assemble mechanical and electromechanical prototypes with an eye for Size, Weight, and Power.
  • Test: Conduct verification and validation testing and reporting on newly developed systems including new software packages, hardware, and payload flight testing.
  • Manufacturing Support: Design fixtures and assembly aids that increase production throughput and determine design improvements on payload components and subsystems for manufacturing.

What You’ll Bring:

Experience and Education:

  • Earning a formal education in mechanical or aerospace engineering, robotics, optics, or related fields.
  • Experience in aerospace and defense, particularly with mid-sized unmanned aircraft and/or airborne imaging systems is preferred.
  • Experience with electromechanical engineering design, rapid prototyping, and manufacturing customer-facing products is preferred.

Technical Competence:

  • Computer-aided design (SolidWorks Preferred) and computer-aided simulation for structural and thermal stress analysis and good design practices.
  • Ability to troubleshoot issues, analyze test results, and promptly communicate findings.
  • Rapid prototyping using SLA and FDM 3D printers.
  • A high degree of ability to operate machines, hand, or power tools.
  • Software testing with basic coding experience in C++ or relevant language.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.), data analysis (Matlab, etc.), and technical report writing.

Character Attributes:

  • Thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced, venture-backed startup business environment
  • Motivates and inspires teammates by demonstrating a prodigious work ethic
  • Collaborates well in a small team environment with teammates and customers
  • Enjoys hands-on work, learning new skills, and taking responsible risks
  • Takes pride in seeing new products reach operational use quickly

What We Offer:

  • Growth Opportunities: As a team member of a true startup, you will learn by doing and shape our future. The opportunities are limitless for those who want to grow their career.
  • Impact Opportunity: We work on missions that matter to keep people safe and make the world better, and we do it without bureaucracy at the speed of a startup.
  • Team Collaboration: Work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment with amazing teammates. The Overwatch Imaging leadership team believes in an open-door policy, meaning everyone has a voice and access to guidance, advice, feedback, and the ability to pitch crazy new products or ideas.
  • Late Start Wednesday: A weekly block to have focus time away from meetings and calls. An opportunity to work from home, flex your schedule or self-directed time to focus on training and development.
  • Holidays: Overwatch Imaging recognizes 10 company holidays
